After decades as a reading teacher and curriculum specialist, I retired in June, 2014 to start new adventures with my husband and life partner. We traveled, enjoyed grandchildren, and I began a mission to lose weight and to get into physical shape. Throughout the years I have expressed myself creatively through cooking and sewing. I even made my daughter a look-alike “Cabbage Patch” doll with brown hair tied in bunches, wearing a doll=size velour jogging suit, but I needed an activity that was more portable. Knitting and crocheting were the key. My grandsons were the recipients of some of my earlier efforts. However, through the years my skill and focus have evolved so that now I make shawls, sweaters, scarves and my love: hats and fingerless gloves. My friends have supported my passion at home shows and craft fairs and have encouraged me to take the next step, selling on line.
I enjoy experimenting with new designs, colors, and yarns. When I learned to cable, I began another new line. Many of my newest hats and gloves sport a crocheted flower or have been embellished with a cuff or a button selected to bring out the spirit of the work. When I realized that they are pieces of art that you can wear, I experienced a creative glow that made me want to share the work with a wider audience.
My in-progress knitted and crocheted work are constant companions on trips and visits. It is hard to be impatient or ill-tempered when you can whip out the yarn and keep your fingers busy. When a friend or customer finds just the right piece for herself or for a gift, I experience the joy I felt when one of my struggling students learned to read or delighted in new book.
I invite you to join me at my web-site. My Etsy shop will open in the fall. The “art that you can wear” can be the perfect fashion accent for yourself, a friend, or loved one.
